The reflection of daily press on printing houses' efforts to compose public onion in the face of alphabet revolution (1928-1933)

There are a number of studies on the echoes of the adoption of Latin alphabet in 1928 in press, libraries, bureaucratic practices and education-culture. While there are lots of publications that the alphabet revolution's positive influences on the read-write rate, it is not explained completely how the revolution revives printing and publishing life. Printing houses had some difficulties in the facing of alphabet revolution. In this instance there hasn't yet been sufficient deal with how they assert the difficulties they faced. This study aims to indicate printing houses' efforts of molding public opinion. This study is limited from 1928 to 1933 which is the year of accepting "The Law of One Book". What kind of difficulties booksellers experienced and their solutions are analysed in the study. During the searching, it was observed that because of the Revolution, the booksellers in Istanbul couldn't sell textbooks. Due to this situation, they had some financial problems. So, it was focused especially on this subject in this study. The booksellers made statements to the newspapers and journals to make their voices heard. They tried to reach different government authorities, especially to the Ministry of Education. It was seen that not only they requested financial aid from the government to compensate financial problems, but also they carried the situation to the judicial authorities in order to retrieve their loss. In this thesis, description and documentary analysis research methods were used. Articles, books and a variety of electronic sources, as well as the many daily newspapers of that period were also greatly benefited. As a result of the study it was concluded that "Printing houses suffered financial problems in the face of Alphabet Revolution, they tried to mold public opinion by giving the statements and making news to the daily press.
