This chapter introduces different mechanisms of shape memory materials (SMMs), strategies for applying SMMs to textiles and the applications of the resultant shape memory textiles. New functions of textiles created by integrating them with SMMs are also presented. The chapter mainly focuses on shape memory alloys (SMAs) and shape memory polymers (SMPs), which have been widely used in textiles. In addition to the present achievements of the SMM application research, the future of SMMs in textile applications is also discussed.Institute of Textiles and Clothin
