Zhuang, a member of the Tai language family spoken in southwestern China, was traditionally written with Zhuang characters which resemble Chinese characters. The ancient Zhuang character dictionary published in 1989 listed and defined over 10,000 Zhuang characters and serves as the main reference for their study. This dictionary has been helping to revise the use of Zhuang characters among Zhuang speakers.Department of Chinese and Bilingual Studie
