This paper reports on a study of the use of energy in one of the buildings in a tertiary educational institute in Hong Kong. Energy indices, including a building energy index (BEI), electric load factors (ELF), and occupancy load factors (OLF), are calculated from the information provided in electricity bills. These indices help to guide the direction of energy auditing and hence improve the consistency of the energy audit. Field measurements of the plant rooms are performed for a more detailed analysis of the energy use. Suggestions to modify the operational schemes of the air conditioning are made.Department of Building Services Engineerin
