Building energy analysis simulation programs are developed to analyze the ultilization of energy. The effect of various design alternatives on buildings can be predicted by the estimated annual energy requirements. However, we do not know which one gives the "best" prediction, as a program suitable for some buildings may not be able to give an accurate estimation for others. The program BLAST has been identified as a design tool in North America, but its performance for buildings in Hong Kong has not yet been analyzed. This paper reports the evaluation of the program under local conditions, described by sub-tropical climates, building envelope design with curtain wall and very complicated HVAC systems installed. The program is found to be s...
