NiTiCu powder of particle size about 70 μm was preplaced on steel samples and scanned by a high-power CW Nd:YAG laser to form a modified layer of a few hundred μm thick. The microstructure of the laser-modified layer and the morphology of the damaged surface after cavitation were studied by optical microscopy.
