What Patients Have Taught Me During My Tenure at Tokyo Women\u27s Medical University

In pursuit of my dream of successful kidney transplantation, I have been passionately involved in the practice of kidney transplantation for the last 40 years. With the development of new immunosuppressive drugs, improvements in dialysis therapy, etc., the graft survival rate in kidney transplant cases now approaches 100%. Moreover, renal cancer patients as well as patients with many other urological disorders, such as bladder or prostate diseases, are also referred to our institution from around the country. Especially, we have made every endeavor to preserve kidney function in the surgical treatment for kidney cancer, renal vascular disorders, and many other urologic diseases. Thus, our department has been one of the most active urological departments in Japan. In this article, I report on my practice centered on kidney transplantation and the diagnosis and treatment of renal cancer during my tenure at Tokyo Women\u27s Medical University.
