The aim of this paper is to present some aspects of a comparative methodology that deals with three main themes: Ancient written sources, Archaeological record and some cases studied in African History. This comparative method tries to reach some historical explanations of the representations of Tartessos in those written sources, as well as in the archaeological processes known in some regions of the Southwestern Iberia. Analyzing historical episodes like the Portuguese presence in Angola, it’s possible to create a questionnaire for some situations represented in ancient texts and for the archaeological record.
