DURING LAST YEARS THE DEBATE ON REDUCIG WORKING DAY LENGTH AS A POLICY INSTRUMENT TO CREATE JOBS IN THE EUROPEAN UNION HAS INTENSIFIED. THE AUTHORS REVIEW THE WORKING TIME DISTRIBUTION IN THESE ECONOMIES, PARTICULARLY IN FRANCE AND THE NETHERLANDS, AND THE LENGTH OF THE WORKING DAY IN SPAIN. HE STRESSES THE RELEVANCE OF PRODUCTIVITY WHEN SHORTENING WORKING TIME AND STUDIES THE FINANCING OF THIS REDUCTION
