Cambio de paradigma energético y las nuevas tecnologías

Considering the wide implications of global warming it is evident the need, not only of diminishing the energy consumption patterns, but of diversifying to “sustainable” energy resources. Moreover, within the frame of national security, this requires tore-think the managing and use of available resources, because any change of the energy paradigm will depend, at least at the beginning, on fossil energy.Considering the above, the following paper opens a discussion about energy, entropy and the limits of economic growth, following the premises of the school of ecological economics. It offers several empirical data about the situation of the current energy pattern, mostly about its socio-environmental aspects. The paper ends discussing the characteristics and limitations of the main available alternative energies; meanwhile it highlights the relevance of contemporary patterns of territorial organization. It concludes pointing out the inherent need of diminishing the type and rhythm of current energy consumption.Con la agudización del calentamiento global es evidente la necesidad no solo disminuir los patrones de consumo energético, sino también diversificar las fuentes de energía hacia otras sustentables. Ello obliga, por cuestiones de seguridad nacional, a replantear la gestión y usufructo de los recursos fósiles disponibles, puesto que cualquier cambio de paradigma energético forzosamente estará sustentado, al menos en un principio, en ese tipo de energía. Con base en la actual disponibilidad de combustibles fósiles, se debe virar hacia la conformación de un nuevo patrón energético. El presente texto abre una discusión sobre energía, entropía y límites del crecimiento que deriva de la escuela de la economía ecológica. Presenta, con abundante información empírica, el estado de situación del patrón energético actual, en particular, sus aspectos socio-ambientales.Finalmente cierra con una discusión sobre algunas de las características y limitaciones de las principales opciones de energía alternativa disponibles a la vez que subraya la relevancia del tipo de ordenamiento territorial contemporáneo.Concluye con la necesidad intrínseca y creciente de reducir el tipo y ritmo del consumo de energía
