This article analyzes the current status of professors, researchers, and academics who write critical reflections about society and culture, in the context of quality assurance systems in higher education that have been implemented in Latin America, including Colombia. In addition, it studies the changing and complex expectations of various stakeholders about universities and the challenges they pose to education. These two processes have generated changes in higher education institutions, some of which are contradictory to the historical significance of the university in Latin America. Finally, the article highlights the waning importance of academics and intellectuals as figures of public relevance.En este artículo se analiza la situación...
