Hållbart byggande med Grounded theory : En studie av entreprenörer inom byggbranschen

The purpose of the study was to investigate if the method Grounded theory could be used in a study of the construction industry. The aim was also to concretize the concept of sustainable development. A further aim was to summarize what sustainable services Construction Company’s in Umeå offers. The method Grounded theory is a qualitative method that by induction generates a theory of a substantive area. The first step was to collect data through eight interviews of entrepreneurs from four different construction companies operating in Umeå. The results of the interviews along with the existing literature created a theory about what sustainable building can stand for in the construction industry. The results show that the method Grounded theory can be used in a study of the construction industry. The generated theory shows that sustainable construction involves a consideration of the building where the building's construction, usability and its value are areas that need to be taken into consideration. There are many similarities with the theory and the description, made by The world commission on environment and development, of what sustainable development stands for, namely ecological, social and economic sustainability. With regards tithe supply of sustainable services that selected construction companies can offer in Umeå, there are a few but greater responsibility need to be taken both from the construction industry itself and the clients to achieve a more sustainable construction
