RESUMEN: La osteoporosis es la enfermedad metabólica ósea más frecuente y, sin duda alguna, el principal proceso determinante en el desarrollo de fracturas en los individuos de más de 50 años. La fractura de cadera representa su complicación más grave debido a su importante morbilidad y mortalidad. Al ser la osteoporosis una enfermedad ligada al proceso de envejecimiento, el proceso involutivo asociado a la edad favorece su aparición.
