Thesis (Ph.D.)--University of Washington, 2015This dissertation explores the impact of perception on labor market outcomes in three contexts. The first chapter uses NELS:88 data to examine the differential impact of subject specific self-perception on education choices and labor market outcomes. I find that test scores, grades and perception are all positive and statistically significant indicators of the years of education attained, and dissonance between the measures does not appear to affect investment in education. However, perception outperforms test scores when predicting later wages.
