En aquest article es discuteix l'experiència dels alumnes i les alumnes indígenes de la Universitat Federal de l'Oest de Pará (Brasil), tenint en compte les percepcions i records dels subjectes i la posada en pràctica de l'acció afirmativa en la institució. Fem èmfasi en que la inclusió dels indígenes a l'acadèmia ha originat una sèrie de desafiaments a les institucions d'educació superior, que impliquen canvis curriculars, administratius i culturals.
