Early life nutrition is implicated in the risk of metabolic diseases (e.g. type 2 diabetes) in adulthood. Low birth-weight was associated with defects in the skeletal muscle insulin-signalling pathway of young adult men (1), and insulin resistance was associated with changes in myofibre composition (2).
