I will present an empirical case study addressing the changes in family strategies to reveal the evolution of family patterns in historical depth and to illuminate the impact of the post-Mao reforms on China's rural families. Although the thesis focuses on a transitional peasant community in China, it has implications for rural life in less developed countries in general
