The Sludge Treatment Reed Bed System (STRBS) represents a valid and established technology for treating and managing sewage sludge produced by wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs. STRBSs have been used for dewatering and mineralisation of sludge in Europe since the late 1970s as an alternative to the traditional sludge drying beds and mechanical sludge dewatering. The result of this process is a sludge volume reduction and the final product could be reused in agriculture.
