The impact of bone/dental diseases and trauma in the whole world has increased significantly in the past decades. It is of great importance to develop bioactive scaffolds with multifunctional properties, such as osteogenesis, angiogenesis, cementogenesis, drug delivery and antibacterial property for hard tissue regeneration. Conventional bioactive scaffolds cannot efficiently combine these functions. A new class of bioactive glass, referred to as mesoporous bioactive glass (MBG), was developed several years ago, which possesses highly ordered mesoporous channel structure and high-specific surface area.
