Liver and Intestinal fatty acid binding proteins (FABPs) are small cytosolic proteins presumably involved in the uptake and targeting of fatty acids (FA) to intracellular organelles and metabolic pathways. All further sites of metabolism of long chain FA involve membrane proteins.
