Osteoarthritis (OA) is a very common degenerative condition, often developed during middle and older ages, especially in those with more active lifestyles. Although OA can occur in any joint throughout the body, it most often develops in weight-bearing joints, such as the hip. In 2011 more than 28 million people in the United States were estimated to have OA. OA can lead to pain, stiffness, decreased range of motion, decreased strength, and in turn an overall decline in functional ability.
