Defining a movement: fiberart and art textiles

Fiber Art may not currently be in the midst of a renaissance that does not mean that it can’t or won’t in the future. Renewed attention to just what the term captures could well spur a new generation of artists to reengage with what could, at the very least, be understood as an unfinished discourse. While a far more thorough and comprehensive understanding of the history of the term than this article has provided is certainly necessary, it is perhaps also to the work of this coming generation of artists who are being encouraged to revisit the term that we should look. It is difficult – but certainly intriguing – to try and picture just what the answers to a renewed enthusiasm for the investigation of Fiber Art might provide
