Cerium-doped Ca–α-SiAlON phosphorswithCan?1.5xSi12?m?nAlm+nOnN16?n:Cex (m?2n, 0.8≤m≤2.4, and0.02≤x≤0.40) nominalcomposi- tions havebeensynthesizedbygaspressuresintering(GPS).Thephotoluminescence(PL)propertieswerestudiedinrelationtophase composition, particlemorphology,andmicrostructure.ContinuousadditionofCerare-earth(RE)couldenhancetheemissionintensityof phosphors, whichwaspartiallyattributedtotheformationofincreasedamountofplanardefectswheredensedopingofCeionsisachieved.Such enhancement couldholdupto x?0.32, abovewhichtheemissionintensityfellslightlyduetotheformationofmoresecondaryphasesanda surface glassyphaseratherthanconcentrationquenching.Finally,possiblewaystoimprovetheluminescencepropertiesofCe-doped α-SiAlON phosphors werediscussed...
