Assessment is an integral part of the teaching and learning process. Research by the Assessment Reform Group (ARG) (1999) and others has shown that assessment for learning, or formative assessment, is one of the most powerful educational tools for promoting effective learning and improving performance. Assessment for learning (formative assessment) and summative assessment form part of most national education policies and is advocated in the Namibian curricula.
