Heat stress transcription factors (Hsfs) are the central regulatory components of a signal transduction chain mediating the activation of genes responsive to heat stress and a number of chemical stressors. Sequencing of the Arabidopsis thaliana (Arabidopsis) genome revealed the existence of 21 ORFs encoding putative Hsfs. By structural characteristics and phylogenetic comparison, the 21 representatives are assigned to classes A, B and C. The major part of the thesis presents functional genomics approaches to analyze the Hsf family of Arabidopsis.
