In the 19th century the connections and the cooperation between the Czech and Croatian intellectuals were very intensive. In the Czech lands the public was informed about these contacts through the journal propagating national revival called Kvety, which also referred about the activities of Metel Ožegović in Varaždin, where he founded one of the first national reading rooms in Croatia. More intensive contacts maintained the Cro¬atian intellectuals and politicians with the Slovak political milieu within the Hungarian kingdom.
