In order to observe the vertical temperature distribution of the sea water, the resistance thermometer have hitherto been utilized, but the thermocouple have never been utilized. The thermopile thermometer consited of 50 junctions and cooling set was deviced (Patent No. 19517) and manufactured by the writer. It gives a maximum error of not more than 0.2℃, and it\u27s time constant A is about 5.3. The thermometer reaches the temperature of the surrounding water in about 25 seconds. This apparatus is more rapid device for the almostsimultaneous observation along a vertical line in the sea water than the resistance thermo-meter because of the smaller time constant
