The purpose of this paper is to present analytical methods of determining the transient temperature and in-plane thermal stress in a thin finite circular plate heated by the surrounding medium at the outer lateral surface and allowing arbitrary variations of heat-transfer coefficient along the radial position on the upper and lower surfaces of the plate. The transient temperature field is analyzed by modified Vodicka\u27s method for one-dimensional boundary value problems in composite regions, and the associated in-plane thermal stresses are determined taking the temperature dependency of Young\u27s modulus and the coefficient of linear thermal expansion into consideration
