This is a discussion of the sixth of Lumen Gentium concerning the consecrated life. The article draws from a study by P. Molinari and P. Gumpel. After presenting the historical background of this chapter, the author analyzes its content. Particular emphasis is placed on the fact tha the Second Vatican Council deemed it necessary to speak about the consecrated life within the framework of the Dogmatic Constitution of the Church. After discussion of the evangelical councils which are the basis of a consecreated life, all five sections of this chapter are explained
