A number of Al-Sr master alloys of differing Sr content and product form have been added (200 ppm target) to Al-7Si-0.5Mg foundry alloy melts held at constant temperatures (670 - 770°C) for periods up to 7 hours. It was found that eutectic temperature depression and peak silicon modification occurred rapidly and held relatively constant throughout holding even when measured Sr levels were as low as 30 ppm. The Sr recovery versus time data for each trial is considered. Master alloy behaviour varies considerably but can be grouped according to type and Sr content. Al-10%Sr small diameter rod products behave the most consistently with rapid dissolution
