The paper deals with analysis of chip formation and related aspects of chip formation, like chip thickness, chip ratio, shear angle and chip segmentation during turning of hardened steel 100Cr6. The paper makes a comparison of some aspects of chip formation between turning annealed and hardened roll bearing steel 100Cr6. The results of the analysis show that there is formation of a segmented chip in the case of hard turning. This process of the chip formation significantly affects all parameters related to the plastic deformation in the cutting zone.
