Add to ORKGHow did Catalán culture survive and thrive during the repressive regime of Francisco Franco? This study centers on how the Catalán music movement called the Nova Cançó helped to subvert the norms and rules of the repressive hegemonic power centers of authoritarian Spain between 1939 and 1975. Through the lens of the Subaltern Studies, this investigation expands upon the historical background and shows the significance of the Nova Cançó after the restoration of the Spanish monarchy in 1975. With this objective in mind, this project revolves around the primary questioning of how the musical message of the Nova Cançó and Catalán culture changed after the death of Francisco Franco
