Narratives constructed by primary children at natural history dioramas considering animals as a genre of exhibit and the exhibit learning cycle. The paper points out that naming is a fundamental vocalised activity of children at such exhibits and that recognising and exhibit is a complex procedure. The starting point for science observations is observation and adults accompanying children should be encouraged to look and share their observations, the children tell the story as it is to them, spontaneously, they develop a dialogue with peer or adults present and learning begins with talking, a precursor to reading and writing
