This paper presents a new unified method for the geometric and radiometric correction of SAR images acquired over hilly terrain, towards the production of value-added SAR backscatter maps. This method is based on a simulator using a rigourous geometric model (from IGN). This simulator allows to estimate radiometric distorsion terms to eliminate them, before proceeding to the geocoding. Results obtained on SIR-C SAR images acquired over hilly forested terrain shows a good homogeneization of forest backscatter.
