Three approaches are presented. Monitoring programs (set up by Water Authorities in collaboration with the DRASS, or run by the GREPPPES as in the Center Region) are the most common. However, a data base such as that of the French National Groundwater Quality Observatory (ONQES) contains only a very limited part of the existing pesticide data. A second approach involves the study, at various scales, of parameters likely to influence the transport of pesticides. This is illustrated here by a study of the variation in atrazine sorption from surface soils down to aquifer solids.
