One of the preoccupation of the European Union (EU) for the implementation of its agricultural policy is to dispose of reliable and independant yield estimations. The use of the analytic links between parameters derived from satellite data and physiological functions representing the crop growth condition gives a qualitative information of the biomass production. A more quantitative information can be obtained by the application of the semi deterministic model of Monteith in which the solar radiation intercepted by a crop is transformed into dry matter.
