Bursting test : validation by 2D-tension test and infrared thermography

Geomembrane bursting test is easy to conduct and requires only light, unsophisticated equipment. The material is subjected to a 2D tension in the form of spherical caps. The article gives an inventory of the different tension tests used for geomembranes with their advantages and problems. An analysis of the constraints and distorsions caused by the bursting test is then developed on the basis of photogrammetric displacement measurements, of a finite element model and of infrared thermography. A simple model to calculate the constraints and distorsions is presented. Qualitative results of bursting tests on the behavior of several geomembranes available on the market are given. / L'essai d'éclatométrie des géomembranes est simple à mettre en oeuvre, ne nécessite qu'un matériel léger peu sophistiqué et permet de mettre le matériau en traction bidimensionnelle sous forme de calotte sphérique. L'article présente d'abord un inventaire des différents essais de traction utilisés pour les géomembranes avec leurs avantages et inconvénients. Une analyse des contraintes et déformations est ensuite développée pour l'essai d'éclatométrie sur la base de mesures photogrammétriques des déplacements, d'un modèle en éléments finis et de mesures en thermographie infra-rouge en cours d'essai. Un modèle simple de calcul des contraintes et déformations est présenté. Des résultats qualitatifs du comportement de plusieurs géomembranes commercialisées lors de l'essai d'éclatométrie sont donnés
