High grazing lands used to play an important role in highland farm economy. The drop in mountain pasture frequentation, due to a decrease in the number of indigenous animals, was compensated for by the arrival of livestock from neighboring valleys and plains in the 70s. This tendency has benefited from the pastoral law creating pastoral land associations, and pastoral groups. Surveys were conducted by the INERM to estimate the forage potential and transhumant animal production (dairy cows, heifers, lambs).
