The very mild oceanic climate of the Aquitaine region helps the installation of exotic plant species. This rather recent phenomenon has been observed in the region for 25 to 30 years. Three species have appeared in mass in the fringe of the littoral waterbodies. Faced with the increasing difficulties caused by these species, a study has been performed in 1988-1989 in order to review the situation and come up with a management plan. A cartographic approach has led to a better analysis of these species distribution and of their mode of colonization of the environment.
