Mistaken estimates can be due to various causes among which an insufficient knowledge of some aspects of the foresseable phenomenon, and particularly the given circumstances under which a break-up of the snow surface is likely to happen. Actually, slab avalanches, however frequent in high mountains, may still remain unexpected. The present project, aims at trying to bring forward some new elements concerning the formation and break-up of snow slabs. Methods adopted so far have been based upon a series of regular, frequent, precise and reliable field observations which are especially related to the transport of snow in windy conditions and the evolution of the quality of the surface snow and, moreover, have been complemented by both nivo-met...
