The Sarennes glacier has been monitored since 1948 by the "Eaux et Forêts" and today by the Cemagref in Grenoble. Each summer, measurement campaigns are conducted. At the beginning of the ablation period, around June 1st, the winter accumulation balance is measured by swindling in five representative stations. During the four following months, from June to October, the glacier's mass balance is monitored either by swindling or by reading the ablation beacons. In 1993-94, the 46th year of observation, a heavy accumulation (2.15 m of water equ), a strong ablation (2.78 m WEQ), a slightly negative balance (-0.63 m) and a strong regime (4.93 m WEQ) were observed.
