Developing a horizontal, rotating water flow in a channel by separate shaking improves oxygen transfer in an aeration system with air insufflation. Optimizing oxygen transfer of such system requires the control of the effects of its design parameters on factors on which the oxygen transfer depends. An experiment on an annular channel equipped with fine bubble diffusors and agitators, has helped quantify this empirical knowledge. An increase in the air flow using a diffusor, caused a decrease of the contact surface by increasing the diameter of the new air bubbles, and the air-water contact time by increasing the water vertical rotation.
