After a methodological approach applied to only one station of the Charente stream, four reference stations around the city of Angoulême have been monitored since 1993. Research efforts have been centered around factors affecting the development of aquatic plants and their interannual variations. Depth seems to be an important parameter of plant distribution. Runoff intensity from January to June seems to have a significant effect on biomass production in summer and that explains the inter-annual variations observed.
