Based on an agricultural and ecological typology of the plant populations of the dairy mountain pastures of the north-western part of the French Alps counting about 200 linear readings, the authors analyze the biological diversity of these types of vegetation in terms of specific diversity. The latter is reflected by three indicators: the specific wealth, the Shannon index, and equitability. To enrich the structural information of diversity by an ecological information, the Shannon index is also expressed as a function of the ecological positioning of the stations along two gradients combining fertility, humidity and altitude, represented by the first axes of the factorial analysis of the correspondances which have served to define the typo...
