A numerical modelling of the coupling between hydraulic and mechanical phenomena in unsaturated soils is presented. The model neglects the air pressure variation but takes into account the influence of the volumetric deformation on the water flow. When the soil is saturated, the pore pressure effects on the mechanical behaviour is modelled using the effective stress principle. For the partly saturated soils, the model follows, whithin its domain of validity, the extended to the unsaturated soils effective stress principle. In the case of unsaturated soils, we either use an elastic model deduced from the state surface notion.
