Web Services Adaptation at Policy Layer

Web services technology is evolving as a base forimplementing service-oriented architectures (SOA), which hasbecome an important architectural style for Web applicationsdevelopment. As Web Services development has grownconsiderably, the need for Quality of Service (QoS) hasbecome a substantial aspect for developing reliable serviceapplications. In diverse business domains, Web services needto exhibit quality characteristics such as response time,availability, and reliability. However, a problem arises when aWeb service is modified, updated or replaced by a new one.The new Web service may not fully match the QoS featuresprovided from the previous one, this unavoidable problem isrecognized as a mismatch. Mismatches can be found indifferent layers of the Web service interoperability stack andcorresponding adapters are needed to deal with this issue.This paper proposes a study to investigate the feasibility ofachieving interoperability in Web services by evaluating thefunctionality of adapters when mismatches appear at thepolicy layer, which includes non-functional properties likeQoS
