Laboratory investigations of the flow in large circular final settling tanks

Through a research project that has been carried out from the period of September 1990 until June 1991 in the Technical University of Delft, an attempt has been made with a model of a circular final settling tank, to: 1) work out flow patterns experimentally and with a computational model, in a clear water flow; in different conditions of inlet structures, and 2) visualize the real influent, by imitating it in the model with a mixture of finite particles of kaolinite in clear water; also for different conditions of inlet structures. The latter part aroused an interest for extra measurements in the flows observed.
