A Framework for the Most Efficient Client’s Portfolio in the Construction Industry

The aim of this thesis is to develop a framework that can be used within the construction industry to apply portfolio management by economic means, in accordance with the modern portfolio theory developed by Markowitz (1952) and Shape (1964) and current portfolio management tools of commercial banks and the Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management by interviewing them on their vision on infrastructure portfolios. Additionally, a case study was performed to illustrate the usability and the benefits of the framework. Furthermore, by applying this framework to the current Dutch infrastructure system, the efficiency of individual infrastructure assets was determined.
