Qualitative comparisons are made between Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) data and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) predictions for the flow around two adjacent rotating cylinders. For this novel flow configuration, the cylinders rotate in opposite directions with their outer surfaces in contact. Steady state tests are carried out for the following rotational Reynolds numbers, Re-phi = 75, 966 and 1470. Also, tests are carried out where the cylinders are suddenly started. The flow exhibits a relatively powerful jet which is ejected between the cylinders. Under transient conditions a complex now phenomenon is observed.
