The effects of several auxins and polyamines have been tested at various steps. Multiplication of the embryogenic root-derived callus has been optimized on half-strength MS medium supplemented with 3-(benzo[b]selenyl)acetic acid (BSAA, a synthetic auxin) and kinetin; exogenously applied polyamines were deleterious at this stage, causing browning of the callus, diminished capacity of embryo initiation, and an increased tendency to hyperhydricity.
